Lexus LX 500d flagship SUV launched at Rs 2.82 crore

The latest-gen Lexus LX has arrived in India and is available in a single diesel-powered trim.

By Anagh Bhaskar: Japanese luxury automaker Lexus has launched the fourth-gen LX full-size luxury SUV in India. While the last-gen LX which was sold here was available with both petrol and diesel options, the new one is only available in the diesel LX 500d variant. It is priced at Rs 2.82 crore(ex-showroom), with deliveries to commence in January 2023.

As a more premium alternative to the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300, the new Lexus LX 500d takes on a much more muscular look compared to its predecessors. The front gets a massive spindle grille, with slim LED headlamps while the rear gets a full-width LED strip connecting the LED taillamps. The SUV measures 5,100mm in length, 1,990mm in width, and 1,895mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,850mm. It is 200kg lighter than the older LX, and because the engine has been closer to the rear, it has a better center of gravity too. It rides on 22-inch alloys.

While the LX is available with both 5 and 7-seater options, the India-spec car comes with only five seats. There are four interior trim options– Hazel, Crimson, Black, and White/Dark Sepia. There is a twin-display set up in the center with a 12.3-inch display up top for the infotainment system and a lower 7-inch display which shows climate control and other functional information. There’s an 8-inch driver’s display as well as two 11.6-inch rear passenger displays.

Features are plenty in the LX 500d, such as electrically adjustable seats, heated/ventilated seats, rain sensing wipers, 4-zone climate control, Mark Levinson audio system with 25 speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay, and much more.

Powering the Lexus LX 500d is a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 diesel motor that produces 310bhp and 700Nm of torque. This power is sent to all the wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. The SUV gets active height-controllable suspension for all four wheels and adaptive variable suspension.

With the Ash Open Pore Sumi Black Trim and the Walnut Open Pore Trim, the SUV retails for Rs 2.82 crore. Choose the Artwood Takanoha and it will cost Rs 2.83 crore. At this price point, the Lexus LX 500d competes with the likes of the new Range Rover LWB which is priced between Rs 2.56 crore to Rs 3.43 crore, and the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 which is priced at Rs 2.92 crore (all prices ex-showroom).
