Stock Market Today LIVE: Buying returned in Indian markets with the bank, auto and metal stocks taking the lead. Frontline indices S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 extended gains after a cautious opening on Monday. Sensex was trading at 60,379.11, up by 533.82 points or 0.89 per cent while the broader market Nifty was trading at 17,957.75, up 150.95 points by 0.85 per cent. Banking gauge Bank Nifty with gains of 282 points or 0.68 per cent at 41,950.90. In the 50-stock Nifty50, 41 advanced around this time.
In the 50-stock Nifty50, the top gainers were Indusind Bank, Tata Steel, Hindalco Industries, Ultratech Cement Companies and Tata Motors while the top losers were Divi’s Laboratories, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Cipla, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Sun Pharmaceuticals.
Global markets in at least a dozen major economies including US and UK are closed today on account of the extended Christmas holiday. Singapore-based SGX Nifty was trading at 17,974.5, up 110.5 points or 0.62 per cent.
Among top Asian indices, Nikkei 225 was trading at 26,395.80, up 160.50 or 0.61 per cent while China’s Shanghai Composite was down by 76 points or 0.68 per cent at 3,066.58. Hang Seng is also closed today.
The rupee opened with gains of 3 paise against the dollar to 82.79. 0.68
