In a dramatic shift, Gautam Adani has overtaken Mukesh Ambani to become India’s richest individual, with a staggering net worth of ₹11.6 lakh crore, according to the 2024 Hurun India Rich List. Adani’s wealth saw a remarkable 95% increase over the past year, propelling him to the top spot. In contrast, Ambani’s net worth grew by 25%, reaching ₹10.14 lakh crore. Notably, in 2023, Adani’s fortune had plummeted by 57% to ₹4.74 lakh crore following the controversy surrounding the Hindenburg report, which the Adani Group firmly contested. Back in 2014, Hurun had ranked Adani as the tenth richest Indian with a net worth of ₹44,000 crore. Meanwhile, HCL’s Shiv Nadar and family climbed to the third position with ₹3.14 lakh crore, while Cyrus Poonawalla slipped to fourth with ₹2.89 lakh crore.
